Tim Bray "gets it"

Somebody at Google just might be paying attention after all…

I think it’s really important that there be a first-rate unlocked pure-Google Android device out there in the market.

For all of the customizing that carriers have done to make their Android offerings unique, the only phones that have ever made any sense to me – even as an iPhone owner – were the ‘pure-Google’ ones. The only question I have now is, how long will it take Google to come to the same conclusion? Sooner or later, the handset makers who do this will have to face facts and realize that they hinder Android’s development more than they help it. If they don’t, I have a feeling that Google will have no problem leaving them behind.
